Square

Birdless

One solitary bird
Against the backdrop
Of an unsettled sky
Clouds
Like a smattering
Of dark thoughts
Lit up by a mysterious source
From afar
One bird
Poised like an apostrophe
On the telephone wire
Transmitting a message
Of grave importance
Here now
Then suddenly gone
As if it never existed
All that is left
Is an empty sky
Divided by thin lines
Encroaching darkness
Birdless
